What is Phoenix Uptown, Midtown and Downtown.
Besides Downtown you don’t often hear people speak about Midtown or Uptown Phoenix though there are several places using that designation such as Uptown Plaza on Central andCamelback and as these areas become more popular once again they are more commonly used. I also posed this question on the ModernPhoenix.net forum with some great input from others. There are no agreed upon borders or even names for neighborhood for the matter. This is something Phoenix should do, but I can understand the hesitancy.
Its certainly difficult to define in the context of past history and the current urban plan. The benefits of these defined neighborhood identities would tremendous. We’ll use the borders as defined below (roughly) when we speak about them in Real Estate Confluence and elsewhere.
Uptown Phoenix starts at the Arizona Canal just south of Campbell Rd. or Steel Indian School Park, north to about Northern or the other Canal. Then to the east and west its a bit more murky but 15th Ave to the I-51 Freeway make good modern boundaries for the area. North of Uptown is Sunnyslope followed by North Mountain and North Phoenix.

Midtown Phoenix starts at the Arizona canal down to the I-10 freeway then 7th Ave to 7th St. with the core being Central and Osborn.

Downtown Phoenix is a bit easier to define. Its basically the I-10 freeway to the rail road tracks south of Jackson, then 7th St. to 7th Ave. The ease and west boundaries, I think, are a bit more in flux then the north south boundaries.

The main artery of spine is Central Ave.
